Hi Trish,
I entered the contest, but only came up with the idea two weeks before the contest ended, so it wasn’t as polished as much as I’d have hoped. I normally write Single Title, have an agent, but want to do some fun stuff too. What is the secret of selling to Harlequin Present? I prefer to stay away from billionaires and shieks. I have two chicklits published and like contemporary, real life stories. Thank you

Hi Patrice, and thanks for dropping by. As to “the secret of selling to Harlequin Presents”, can I let you into a secret?

There is no secret.

It takes hard work, determination, perseverance, a strong global voice that can deliver on the Presents promise of an intense, passionate romance and plenty more and maybe last on this list but certainly not least, a love for the line. If you read the books and love them, then that’s going to give you loads of hints about what works for the line.

These are contemporary books, but with a big dollop of fantasy. That’s why billionaires and sheikhs and Greek tycoons and Italian stallions have such a happy home here – it’s fantasy, glamour, international settings, and a wild passionate ride into the deal. That’s probably where the fun stuff stops and the hard work begins.

All the best with your entry.
